5 Tips to Care for Your Silver Jewelry

1. Avoid contact with your personal care products (hairspray, perfume, soap and make-up). Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% alloy; it is the alloy which will react and with the products that can cause discoloration.

2. Avoid household cleaners especially bleach because it can cause sterling silver to permanently oxidize (go black) and even a professional jeweler may not be able to remove.

3. Avoid moisture when storing. Sterling silver will tarnish if stored wet or where it can get wet.

4. Store in a ziploc bag wrapped in a tissue to prevent oxidation and being scratched by other .

5. Do NOT clean with an abrasive cleaner or you will scratch on your jewelry; use a jewelry silver polishing cloth like a Sunshine Cloth (usually less than $5). It has no abrasives and you can use it until it is completely black.

When you wear your silver jewelry, you will wear off the oxidation and keep it looking new.

Caring for your Silver Jewelry

I get this question, "How do I care for my silver jewelry?", all the time from my customers so I thought I would post it here.
Sterling 925 silver is prone to tarnishing and scratching. When not worn, it should be stored in a ziploc bag by itself to prevent tarnishing and being scratched by other jewelry. This is an inexpensive solution and almost every home has a ziploc bag.
When you need to clean silver jewelry, you should use a silver polishing cloth. Do NOT use anything abrasive or your silver will be permanently scratched. I love Sunshine polishing cloths (no affiliation just love their product).
Silver jewelry will last a lifetime and look as good as the day you bought it with a little care.

Ideas for Marketing Handcrafted Jewelry

Ideas for Marketing Handcrafted Jewelry

Here are just a few marketing tips for that I have done and had success with. If you have a marketing idea or tip that you would like to share, please add a comment.

  • Hair salon or day spas in your area. Call owner/manager and ask if they will carry some jewelry designs or allow you to host a jewelry trunk show.
  • Small independently owned boutiques ,gift and galleries.
  • Local community events: school festivals, street fairs, etc...
  • Fundraiser for church, sport group or school-host a trunk show with a % of the proceeds go directly to the organization
  • Office Trunk Show-bring jewelry to a business at lunch time. Women can pick up a treasure on their lunch break and men can treat the special women in their life.
  • Private Trunk Shows-host a show in your home or have a friend host a show. Have incentives for others to book a trunk show with you.
