5 Tips to Care for Your Silver Jewelry

1. Avoid contact with your personal care products (hairspray, perfume, soap and make-up). Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% alloy; it is the alloy which will react and with the products that can cause discoloration.

2. Avoid household cleaners especially bleach because it can cause sterling silver to permanently oxidize (go black) and even a professional jeweler may not be able to remove.

3. Avoid moisture when storing. Sterling silver will tarnish if stored wet or where it can get wet.

4. Store in a ziploc bag wrapped in a tissue to prevent oxidation and being scratched by other .

5. Do NOT clean with an abrasive cleaner or you will scratch on your jewelry; use a jewelry silver polishing cloth like a Sunshine Cloth (usually less than $5). It has no abrasives and you can use it until it is completely black.

When you wear your silver jewelry, you will wear off the oxidation and keep it looking new.
