Blue Volcano-Original Sterling Pendant

This original sterling silver pendant was created with a blue star sapphire that has really nice rays.

My husband, John, picked this six-rayed blue star after scouring the wholesale section at the recent Gem Show in Dallas. This is a "belated" Mother's Day gift for his mom as I've been way busy with shows and orders. The stone is a fitting choice since she has 6 kids (one for each ray).

The backplate of the pendant of was hand stamped and aged with liver of sulfur.I was going for something that looks mythical from an era past.

This precious little pendant will be mailed to her tomorrow. I sure hope she likes it. :)

Making Wire Filigree Jewelry-resource and examples of my own handcrafted jewelry designs

While browsing through books at Barnes and Nobles a while back, I found this wonderful book, Silver Threads by Jeanne Rhodes-Moen. The book is a fantastic resource for making wire filigree jewelry which has always interested me.

Being self taught, I have quite the personal library of jewelry resources and I'm always on the lookout for new ways to expand my education and handcrafted jewelry businesss! I really liked this book because it has lots of pictures so you can see the jewelry artist at work plus it has wonderful explanations. Jeanne gives lots of tips and hints and this book can be used by a beginner or a seasoned jewelry artist.


Filigree is defined in the dictionary as-

• Ornamental work of fine (typically gold or silver) wire formed into delicate tracery.
• A thing resembling such fine ornamental work.
  

I used this book as a resource to inspire me and to find my own voice using filigree wire techniques. My first experiment was using twisted wire to create heart shapes. These are not as ornamental as traditional filigree but I love the way it turned out. The hearts are flanked by rainbow flourite. This handcrafted silver wire filigree necklace was sent to a fashion shoot held by She Unlimited and is not available for sale.


This blue filigree angel started off with me creating a fused dichroic glass cabochon. The cabochon has blue and purple. I then bezel set the cabochon using a fancy scalloped fine silver bezel wire. I flattened twisted sterling silver wire and made 3 hearts and a tear that were all soldered together with the cabochon added on top. On top of the cabochon, I have 3 small silver balls to add strength to the design. I soldered a silver ring and voila this Blue Angel Pendant. Dichroic and Fused Glass Jewelry

I am so excited to share this one-of-a-kind dichroic glass creation that I wrapped with sterling silver wire.
It is modern and edgy so I name it, "In the City".

Jewelry -Pendant-focal style

Here is another example of how a simple but larger jewelry design (the cross) can be a focal point.

Pendants are a great way to create a focal point. Whether you want some sparkly bling, funky conversational piece or classic design, you can always draw people's eye with this jewelry style.

Jewelry Purse Necklace

I just love this necklace and pendant. The purse is simple but makes a bold statement.
This is a great way to pick out jewelry. Look for something that is simple but will pack a punch or wow others with either it's uniqueness, design, etc...
This is one of my favorite ways to design since I love creating original pieces; I will take a ready to wear silver, gold or gold-filled chain and put all my creative juices into the pendant design which is the focal point.

Silver Gypsy Pendant

If I were a gypsy, I would use a beautiful silver ball to read fortunes. Well, I'm not a gyspy and I don't read fortunes, but I did create this really simple but stunning silver gypsy pendant. The ball is a handmade bali bead with breathtaking detail.
