September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

I put my heart and soul into every piece of jewelry I make but this one is even more personal as I'm touched by my Bunco sisters' and their mom's valiant fight against Ovarian cancer.

Here is the inspiration behind the design:
The pendant was design with a teal glass base to represent the offical color of the OCRF. The circle patterned dichroic glass has two meanings: the first is the circle represents the O for ovarian and the second is each circle represents a woman who faces this disease . The clear cubic zirconium is a clear bright shining ray of light that brings hope in their time of need.

September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and I've created an 2008 limited edition fused glass jewelry pendant, Shining Light, that will be available through December 15, 2008.

15% of the sale proceeds will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) by December 31, 2008.

Jewelry for A Cause

Since Designing-Diva became a reality, I have supported the Susan G Komen foundation's and breast cancer with sales from my swarovski beaded awareness bracelets. Last year, a limited edition necklace design was created to support ovarian cancer research as well.

Both of these causes are important to me not just because I am a woman but because I personally know many courageous women who are struggling with these diseases and some who have lost. I want to honor these women by helping raise funds for research.

Cynthia Brown of Gift-A-Licious has given me another opportunity to do so and I'm very excited about this venture. I will be donating jewelry for 5 gift bags for a concert that will benefit breast cancer awareness and the St. Anne Home for Mentally Challenged Women. The fundraising concert will be held on October 25th at Eastern Kentucky University and the main attraction is Dolly Parton.

Here is how my jewelry donation to the gift bag will help ...
  • A gift bag presented to Dolly as a thank you for performing
  • another will be auctioned off to benefit breast cancer awareness and the St. Anne Home for Mentally Challenged Women
  • one will be presented to Dolly to auction off for her Imagination Library charity
  • two will be used as magazine giveaways, etc (great PR for these causes to raise awareness)

You can check out current E-bay auctions like this that are making a difference right now... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170239952473&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=007 and http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170239952982&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=007)

Not to give too much away but my 2008 limited edition jewelry designs that are in the works will be "spiritually" based for both breast and ovarian cancer. Both designs will be available for purchase next month. Make sure you are signed up for the Diva's newsletter so you don't miss out.

I encourage you to support whatever you are passion about it....no matter if it is time or pennies....it does all make a difference!

Have a fabulous weekend!
