Fused Glass Design Notes-Tack vs Full Fuse

tack vs full fuse glass experimentGlass is a versatile medium and once you become "one" with the glass ("May the Force" be with you & all that jazz) and your kiln, you can do some amazing things.

I have been experimenting with drawing on glass using glass paste and a syringe. I create my glass paste using CMC, glass powder and distilled water.

If I tack fuse, the drawing has more of a 3D effect/embossed effect (as seen on the left). If I increase the temperature, the drawing actually melts into the glass it is sitting on so if you run your finger over the piece it is smooth (as seen on the right).

Believe it or not, these two tiles were cut the same size but the one on the right has shrunk and has more rounded edges. If I had held the one on the right longer at the full fuse temperature, I could have actually made the square tile into a circular shape.

I'm perfecting my writing & drawing skills in glass using various size needle tips on glass so that I can add some really fun fused glass pendants and art glass decor items including magnet sets because we all need art for the fridge! So, check back often or better yet sign up for the newsletter so you get in on the FREE jewelry drawing every month (next one is May 15th) and get notices of new designs and sales before the general public!

Go Texan-Art Glass Jewelry to Show Off That TX pride

Go Texan member

Designing-Diva is officially a Go Texan member. I created these two art glass pin/pendants to show off a little of that Texas pride. The map of Texas is actually copper sheet that I have cut and fused between 2 pieces of art glass.
If you are interested in purchasing a Texas Art Glass Pin/Pendant, contact me at designingdivajewelry AT gmail Dot com.

More Art Glass Pendant Choices Added

aqua and pink fused art glass pendant
I have been busy creating glass in my studio. This first design is super fun colors-aqua and pink. It will come with choices-can be strung on 16 or 18 inch sterling or 14k GF chain. It will be added to the jewelry boutique later today.
black and metallic blue fused dichroic glass pendant
This art glass pendant incorporates a "metallic blue" dichroic glass with a "fish scale" look. This jewelry design comes with choices as well-Greek Leather cord (as shown), 16 or 18 inch sterling chain.

I will be focusing on glass more than silver metalsmithing for a few weeks since I'm promoting Ovarian Cancer Awareness with an art glass jewelry fund raiser this month. 25% of the proceeds have been pledged to the OCRF. and have been firing frequently. Thank goodness it is starting to cool off a wee bit; the kiln puts out a ton of heat and I think I've sweat off 10lbs this summer just making glass. Hey, maybe I'm on to something? ;)
