Featured Artist Tuesday : Lorraine Allan of Glass & Splinters

Tuesday's Featured Artist is Lorraine Allan of Glass & Splinters. Lorraine has worked with the medium glass since 1985 . Lampwork beads became her sole focus in 2001. She was gracious enough to submit to a quick Q&A interview for Designing-Diva:
Q: How were you introduced to the medium glass?

A: My obsession with glass started in 1983 when I took a stained glass course. After 5 years of making window panels as a hobby I started a stained glass business which continued for another 16 years. Over that time I branched out into other areas of glass such as etched glass, kiln worked pieces and in 1997 I began experimenting with lampwork
beads. In 2001 I gave up all other areas of glass and have worked full-time creating lampwork beads.

Q: What is your favorite design?
A: My favourite design changes almost on a daily basis! At the moment, I'm enjoying creating beads with an organic feel to them.I create different designs every day which is what holds my interest and gives me so much satisfaction in the work I do. I also enjoy making my floral beads when the inspiration hits.

Q: Each bead you design is a work of art. What is your inspiration when designing?
A: Inspiration is everywhere, it may be the bark of a tree or the nightly news reader's tie! The glass itself also inspires the design and seems to have a mind of it's own, flowing freely and creating a pattern quite different than planned.

Lorraine's lampwork glass beads are works of art that can be incorporated into your own jewelry designs. Check out the beautiful pendants that can be instant art gratification ---just slide on a chain you already own!

I would like to thank Lorraine for sharing a little about herself, her art and the inspiration behind her designs. Don't forget to check out her amazing lampwork glass beads!

Thank you for interviewing one of my favorite glass bead designers. My absolute favorite of hers are her pebbles. I grab them the moment she has them up on site!

It's wonderful to see her name here.
